Is He Mobile?

A moment of misunderstanding with a friend. I was explaining to her that my father visited at lunchtimes, and would take the dogs for a walk if they wanted to go. "Oh," she said, "is he mobile?" "Yes," I said, "he's only 72, he can still get about fine." Laughter at the other end. "Herbie, I meant." Yes, he's still mobile. It may not seem that way from photos, since they almost all show him lying down (normal position for greyhounds) but Herbie does actually manage a couple of 45-minute walks a day.

He's a bit saggy from the prednisone - seen from above, he's wasp-waisted - and he's got the equivalent of a squashed tennis ball under his jaw. Which is why I asked the Harry Edwards sanctuary to send him healing. It's not as if anything else is working now.

I am glad to see Herbie up and about. A couple of 45 minute walks are nothing to sneeze at! Besides his body change, how is he doing? Still eating well?

Herbie's still beautiful.

I adopted a terrier mix (Jack Russell? something wirehaired) from the Minnesota Valley Humane Society on Wednesday. Alfie. He wrestles with Buddha. He wrestles with everybody. He tried to wrestle with a dark brindle greyhound at the park today and they had a bit of a scuffle. It's the first time I've ever seen a greyhound riled up and snappish. But a terrier can do that to you, you know.

Oh good! I always hold my breath as I check your blog. Sounds like, all things considered, he is getting along quite well :)

It is amazing that Herbie is still doing a 45 minute walk each day. There is something super "canine" about wonder dog Herbie which makes you a very lucky person indeed. I think Herbie knew you were arranging his funeral way back and thought "I'll show her!!!"
Kisses and hugs for a brave boy.

He's still eating fine, but he can't swallow anything too hard. Ari, I'm so pleased you found a dog for Buddha to wrestle with, but a Jack Russell? Are you insa-no, they're lovely dogs - you won't be needing all your fingers, will you, or your knee-caps, or your nose... no really, they're lovely dogs :-)

You go, Herbie!!! I agree with the others: 45 minute walks are nothing to sneeze at. And besides, that's 45 minutes of glorious smells and views. As they say, "Live life till the wheels fall off."

I think he looks quite handsome--what a beautiful brindle pattern. I'm guessing you've found plenty of yummy soft things for the boy to eat.

Thinking of you both and thanks for keeping us all updated.
