Too hot. Heat seems to make Herbie's lumps grow, so he looks worse this week. I think the extra energy he uses to stay cool drains him - either that or heat makes cancer cells grow faster. Tomorrow I'm going to buy him a fan. He's been resisting ice packs, and won't drink water if it's got ice cubes in.
I used to love hot weather, but having dogs changed that. It changes so many things, and that's only a minor one. We've all been sitting on the concrete driveway, in the shade of the house, where the concrete is cool. The neighbours must think I'm mad, but there's no breeze in the back garden, surrounded by high fences and bushes.
Work is going to be grim tomorrow - no air-con, very little ventilation - I'm dreading it. I can't be the only one contemplating a rain-dance.

Ooh, we're no better here in the Ecstatic Joy of Minnesota USA. It's sticky and humid. I was hoping to get some yard work done and the garage swept out, but I gave up.
I'm not much of a beer drinker, but I keep a few bottles in the fridge for weather like this. My dog Buddha also likes cold beer in this weather, but I get the lion's share of the bottle, bub! (I have to put my foot down once in a while, you know.)
Sorry about your lack of air-conditioning tomorrow at work. That's rough. Make sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
I know exactly what you mean. The dogs are really having a hard time. Fudge has a very thick coat. Think I am going to have her shaved. I am walking very early in the morning to make their lives a bit easier. My work is always either too hot or too cold, never OK. Hugs to you, Herb and Hollie
You are so right on how things change when we bring dogs into our lives. It opens up a whole new perspective on how other beings experience things differently than we do -- I feel like it's expanded my ability to be compassionate towards others.
I'm so sorry that Herbie is feeling the heat. Is he on prednisone? It made Cole pant more and drink more when she was on it. We've played a "trick" on Bridget and Cole by making them believe that ice cubes are T-R-E-A-T-S. Now they (or should I say Bridget) comes running every time we take out the ice cubes!
Bridget and I are going outside right now to do a little rain dance for your area of the globe! I hope you are finding relief at work.
xo
Thanks all for the good thoughts. Herbie now has a small fan on the end of the bed! (He's not on pred, it makes him too miserable, I honestly thought he was going to die on higher doses, and even lower doses make him pant like crazy.)
Thanks for your message over at our blog. It's great to read that Herbie's still enjoying life, if a little over-heated. I totally agree with him - give me a bright Autumn day anytime!
