... for all the support I've received over the last day or so. Going to the vets is turning out to be stressful these days, and I really appreciate all the kind comments.
Today I have mostly been soaking sugar beet pellets. These come in 25 kilo sacks (the smallest size) and I put half a dozen pellets in a bowl of water this morning.
The end result looks like something you scrape out of a blocked drain. Tomorrow Herbie gets his first taste.

Love is soaking sugar beet pellets! I hope Herbie thoroughly enjoys it. xxxxxxxxxx
Looks yummy :o)He will love them though. I have actually tried sugar beet (as a daft youngster working with horsed) and it's OK. Herbie is a lucky lad xxxx
Yum-yum - I'm with Fiona on this one! I'm sure he'll love it... I wonder if it might be slightly more appealing if it's warmed up a bit? Sorry, I'm suggesting more labour, and I'm sure you're up to your eye-balls as it is.....
I'm interested to hear how he likes his beets! Also, he looks *so* handsome in his coat--wow--it fits perfectly.
Sending you are Herbie positive thoughts. Big hugs...
Graham, I've mixed it with a bit of the water the chicken was boiled in, and he's eaten it, though he left it till last! You sound as though you've used this as well - how much did you give?
handh,
Graham is in London at the moment and so might not be able to reply. I think his experience of it has been with horses! I am sure he will be in touch a.s.a.p. I just didn't want you to think he was not being helpful. I hope Herbie is having a good day. Give him some kisses on those beautiful ears. xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi, sorry it's taken me a while to respond, but as mother pointed out, I've been away.
I'm afraid I didn't ever give Prince sugar beet, I've always fed it to horses so don't really know how much you should give to Herbie. It's not very nutritionally rich I don't think, so I don't think you could over-do it within reason. Sorry if this isn't much help. I hope he's still doing well.
